Described by Enzo Ferrari as “the most beautiful car ever made” the Jaguar E-Type quickly established its status as an icon of the motoring world. With a top speed of 150mph, sub-7-second 0 to 60 mph acceleration, monocoque construction, disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, and independent front and rear suspension, the E-Type simply oozed glamour and excitement. It owed much to Jaguar's legendary D-Type racing car, which won the gruelling 24 Hours of Le Mans three years in a row beginning in 1955, and employed a sporting design with both the body tub and the engine bolted directly to the frame. On its release in March 1961, the E-Type defined its generation and became the car of choice for playboys, super models, rock stars and showbiz darlings alike.
The 1967 edition pictured here celebrates the E-Type’s unmistakeable side profile and James has deliberately chosen to set it against a totally white background, so powerful is its visual impact. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, the title of DC7 was inspired by the private registration plate of land speed record breaker Donald Malcolm Campbell CBE who, not surprisingly, counted an E-Type amongst his enviable collection of British automobile classics. Appropriately, the colour is Bluebird blue.
This signed print is one of a limited edition of 50. It’s recorded on Hahnemühle stock via a large format mimeograph and generally referred to as Giclée prints of premium quality. The paper is white 100% a-cellulose with a distinct textured surface and the premium matt inkjet coating more than meets the highest industry standards vis-à-vis density, colour gamut, colour graduation and image sharpness, while preserving the extraordinary touch and feel of genuine art paper.
