To commemorate the centenary of Whiting Bay Village Hall, James was invited to create a special edition artwork, with complete freedom to explore his creative vision. This edition is not available through the Iconic Reserve website, but exclusively through the Whiting Bay Memories site: https://whiting-bay-memories.com/whiting-bay-public-hall-1926-2026.

Approaching the hall from the village, visitors typically ascend a path to the right, leading to the well-known entrance on the building’s right side. In this edition, creative adjustments were made to improve visual clarity: the actual path and surrounding foliage on the left would obscure much of the building. To address this, the path was repositioned centrally to create a more welcoming composition and to reveal the hillside backdrop by selectively clearing some of the greenery.

Modern infrastructure, including overhead cables, now connects to the hall. In the artwork, these cables serve as perches for various bird species native to the island, offering a softer contrast to the architecture and symbolising the diversity and spirit of the community that frequents the hall.

No specific season is depicted in the piece, a deliberate choice to represent the hall’s year-round importance. The textured grey render around the windows is subtly defined by fingerprints contributed by local volunteers—an intimate detail linking the community directly to the project.

A century ago, the people of Whiting Bay came together with determination to raise the funds needed to build the Village Hall. Their vision became reality in July 1926, and today, 100 years later, they would undoubtedly be proud of what their efforts have become.

Each edition includes a certificate and a poem written by the artist. All proceeds from sales go directly to support the Village Hall.
